elementary Emerald by weakhead elementary Emerald by weakhead
OUTDATED. This theme doesn't match latest elementary GTK. You've been warned.

You can use menu arrow instead of icon - just replace it in Emerald Theme Manager.

Unfortunately, no.
I've abandoned Emerald, since it's a broken and unmaintained application.

This is a little gem!

What are the odds that you will be updating this for the newest eGTK iteration? I really like the spacing of the buttons, but compared to e.g. the newest xfwm4 theme, I think the gradient on your latest version is a wee bit off and the buttons are not quite dark enough when you hover over them (FWIW, making them darker improves legibility and usabilty for me).

Keep up the great work :D

Unfortunately, I won't maintain this theme anymore.

Has it been updated since the last elementary update ? Because I've got the "old" version of this emerald and it does not match perfectly with the new elementary, it's not the exact same gray...

thanks

thanks a lot of making. I hated the jagged edges in the Metacity theme.

Yeah, issue with corners is fixed.

I've changed font to DejaVu Sans because it's a standard. Droid Sans is not used by everyone (and they should! :D ).

And I've found that title looks much better without outline.

Sweet. :)
Instant fav. And I agree about the droid fonts, they're awesome.

Well done, it does look and feel somewhat better than the metacity theme.

Looks pretty good. The only big things I notice are the rounded corners in Maximized windows and that the titlebar isn't properly etched. But, from my failed experiences with Emerald, I don't think either of these are your fault ;)

Yeah, etched text is impossible in Emerald, you can only add additional highlight.

Those corners in maximized windows - it's pixmap engine fault, I already explained it under first ~Blittzd comment.

ah I see, well then in the next version etched text is a good one ;)

And bummer about the pixmap engine :/

I can try to make another theme powered by vrunner engine - better maximized experience, but it won't reflect all details (no sexy #FDFDFD highlight at top).

Yeah, you can't do etched text in Emerald, which is a shame. Both Metacity and Emerald are poor, in my opinion. GNOME seriously needs a better window decoration engine.

IMHO, it needs a whole new WM. Something fast and lightweight, with a careful selection of useful effects, and beautiful theming.

Oh, this looks much better than the metacity theme's jagged edges. Good job! :)

What font are you using for the title bar?

Thanks.
Font: Droid Sans | bold | 8

Unfortunately, Emerald's pixmap engine is screwing maximized windows a bit - instead of using only middle texture of titlebar, it's adding top corners with disabled roundness, so you can see them filled with #8D8D8D. But it doesn't look that bad :)

That's ok. I barely ever maximize windows now that I have a decent sized monitor. :)

On a side note, Emerald (or metacity) needs a SERIOUS update. I hope the Gnome team re-work metacity for the release of Gnome 3.

Yeah, Metacity is truly evil and ugly as it is now. I hate it mostly because of theme syntax.

It's hard to theme as well? That makes it so much worse. :/

Sometimes I wonder how the Gnome team could possibly be working on "revolutionizing" the desktop when simple things like theming are broken/obsolete.

Metacity uses xml-based syntax, which isn't that bad. However, there is no up to date documentation (at least no official). There are also some limits, for example: corners can be rounded only in one pre-defined angle.

When you compare theme construction of Metacity, PekWM and Xfce4, you will see that the first one is needlessly bloated, all what it does can be made much simpler!

Ironic, since Gnome is all about being simple... :/
