IPORTANT NOTE: I've dumped styles for official Nautilus and focused on Nautilus-elementary 2.30 instead. It's recommended to have it installed. If you don't like Nautilus-elementary, there's a solution for it in included README.

Yes, because that's Emerald window decorator, not Metacity.

I'm looking for the scrollbar image resources, where would I find them?

Scrollbar is rendered directly by the theming engine (Equinox). It's not made by custom pixmaps.

Is there any way to extract the images? I want to implement them in Google Chrome.

Unfortunately, no.
However, it's easy to recreate them in GIMP or Photoshop.

Okay, I'll try my hand at slicing it up. If I manage to get this working in Chrome, I'll send you a link so maybe others can use it?

I've got Ubuntu 10.10, with nautilus-elementary (updated today),
The right arrow of the breadcrumbs do not appear for me... (the left do), Do you have any ideas of the reason ?

Also, as I've searched by myself a bit about how a gtk theme is done I've got some questions :) :
Where are the pictures of the buttons (and the tabs) ? I didn't find them (even on the default elementary folder)
And also what is responsible that there is only a thin line between the explorer pane and the content, contrary to default elementary (or ambiance...) that have a space between them ?

Anyway I really like your mod of Elementary, I find the breadcrumbs much better ! And you delete the bug with the space next to the explorer pane and that's great !! :)

To experience breadcrumbs as intended, enable them in Nautilus's preferences (Tweaks tab, Show like breadcrumbs).

Pictures of most widgets are not provided, because they are rendered by GTK theming engines: Equinox and Murrine.
Elementary EM provides special styles for Nautilus, which are absent in Ambiance and many other themes. Those style takes care of bradcrumbs and other stuff in Nautilus, like this separator you're talking about. New official release of eGTK will also have those tweaks.

Oh thanks ! My Ubuntu is in french so it was not the same word and I didn't think about that, now everything works ! :)

In the meantime I've also find the "egtk" folder with more pictures ! ^^

But the buttons are rendered ? So no picture ?! I'm a total noob with linux skining, I've got a lot to learn ! :D

Thanks for the answers and info ! :)

Good way to learn is to modify existing theme.
Ambiance and Radiance - Ubuntu's defaults are great for start. They use Murrine engine - one of the most popular and definitely the most powerful GTK theming engine existing.

Another good example is eGTK, which uses some more advanced tricks and is an example of hybrid theme, using many theming engines (Murrine, Aurora, pixmap).

For pure pixmap-based theme (with png files used as a source of widget's appearance), check older themes of ~lassekongo83 (Kupo Finale for example) or ~Lokheed's themes: Mint 2.0, Cobble, Tempura or Luminance.
Using pixmap engine is the most tricky thing to do - it's easy to produce bugs with it, so it has to be used with care.

How do I install just the breadcrumbs?

Copy Breadcrumbs folder from elementary EM/gtk-2.0 folder to gtk-2.0 folder of theme you want to install breadcrumbs in.
Next, open gtkrc file of theme you have chosen and add following lines at the end:

style "nautilus-breadcrumbs"
{
xthickness = 5
ythickness = 0

GtkButton ::child-displacement-y = 0
GtkButton ::child-displacement-X = 0
GtkButton ::inner-border = { 3, 3, 0, 0}

engine "pixmap"
{
image
{
function = BOX
shadow = OUT
recolorable = TRUE
state = PRELIGHT
file = "Breadcrumbs/breadcrumb-normal.png"
border = { 0, 0, 3, 2 }
stretch = TRUE
}

image
{
function = BOX
recolorable = TRUE
shadow = IN
state = PRELIGHT
file = "Breadcrumbs/breadcrumb-active.png"
border = { 2, 1, 3, 2 }
stretch = TRUE
}

image
{
function = BOX
recolorable = TRUE
state = NORMAL
file = "Breadcrumbs/breadcrumb-normal.png"
border = { 0, 0, 3, 2 }
stretch = TRUE
}

border = { 2, 1, 3, 2 }

}

state = ACTIVE

border = { 2, 1, 3, 2 }
stretch = TRUE
}

{
function = BOX
recolorable = TRUE
state = INSENSITIVE
file = "Breadcrumbs/breadcrumb-normal.png"
border = { 0, 0, 3, 2 }
stretch = TRUE
}

{
function = BOX
recolorable = TRUE
state = SELECTED
file = "Breadcrumbs/breadcrumb-active.png"
border = { 2, 1, 3, 2 }
stretch = TRUE
}
}
}

style "nautilus-left-slider"
{
xthickness = 0
ythickness = 0

engine "pixmap"
{
image
{
function = BOX
file = "Breadcrumbs/left-slider-normal.png"
border = { 5, 0, 5, 5 }

}

}

Thanks weakhead,

Installed the font.. looks good :) But I can't get it to look at nice as yours (yours looks crisp while min looks a bit blurred). Have you done anything specific to make it look like this?

As for my other question, what I meant is that the Elementary Nautilus mod makes your breadcrumbs look "sexy", it would be nice if your theme had something along these lines as well since it's already based on the nautilus-mod :)

This is how managed to get breadcrums in elementary EM 0.3; hope it doesn't screw anything up =P

Get the global breadcrums fix from here [link] and extract it into your home folder. Open elementary EM/gtk-2.0/nautilus.rc and go to line 185, which should look like this:

widget_class "*Nautilus*Toolbar*Button" style:highest "theme-button"

Remove the ":highest", save, re-apply the theme and enjoy your sexy-looking breadcrums =)

1) Yeah, appearance of fonts is altered by you configuration. I'm running Arch Linux and using cairo, fontconfig, freetype2 and libxft packages with Ubuntu patches.
Here's my ~/.fonts.conf file: [link]

2) Ah, you've meant breadcrumbs. AFAIR, breadcrumbs will be built-in feature for Nautilus-elementary, so there's no need making one via theme.

Thanks for the .fonts.conf :)

Interesting to hear that it "will be" a build in feature :) Currently its not though. For the record - it IS currently "build in" but themes still have to explicitly support it by providing theme settings and files.

I've meant the breandrumbs-with-any-theme hack, but I just got informed that Nautilus won't have one.

I will update elementary EM for breadcrumbs. When will this happen, I don't know...

Thanks for your comment.

Very nice! I had to modify the Nautilus sidebar though, don't like how you can't see where the sidebar stops and the content starts. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to add a small 1 pixel border to the right of it.

2 requests -

Could you provide the font you are using in the screenshots (or just the name so I can obtain it myself)?

Could you add support for the tabs the elementary mod added? I tried adding them myself but for some reason it wont take. (I copied the nautilus folder from the original elementary-mod theme as well as the line to include the rc in gtkrc).

Again, very nice!

1) Font: Droid Sans
2) I'm not sure what you mean here. I'm having issues with GVFS and won't install Nautilus anymore, so I can't test it myself.
This will have to wait.

En primer lugar, habrá que ver si no va a provocar errores en el original Nautilus.
Yo lo hago en la próxima versión.

I'm not sure what do you mean by regular GTK.

It's a GTK theme rendered by 2 engines:
- Equinox
- Murrine

Ah I see, so it's not regular GTK, ok. Just wondering.

Regular GTK doesn't look pretty without Metacity for some reason.

I use openbox, and murrine looks pretty without metacity.
